An Unexpected Trip to Seattle: Art and Father-Son Moments
Sometimes, the best moments in life come unexpectedly. When a previously planned trip fell through, Charmion had a wonderful idea - why not take the opportunity to visit Josh in Seattle? I hadn't considered it at first, but it turned out to be one of the most meaningful trips I've ever taken.
I planned the visit with a special goal in mind: to bring my paints and brushes so I could finish and deliver two paintings I had promised Josh—portraits of his dogs, Taiyo and Gizmo. These would complete the set alongside the painting I had previously done of Ayla.
Creating Side by Side
What made this trip even more special was how our time together unfolded. While Josh was downstairs in the dance studio, passionately guiding his dancers through choreography, I was upstairs in his office, working on paintings.
It was an incredible feeling—father and son, each immersed in our own artistic process yet sharing sane creative energy. As Josh worked through the challenges of movement and storytelling in dance, I faced my own hurdles in bringing his beloved dogs to life on canvas.
During those moments, we weren't just father and son—we were two artists, creating, struggling, and succeeding side by side.
A Moment to Remember
Before I left Seattle, I finally got to present the finished paintings to Josh. Watching him take them in - standing there, amazed, absorbing every detail - was a moment I will never forget. It wasn't just about the paintings; it was about what they represented: love, shared creativity, and the deep bond we have.
We captured that moment in a photo together, holding the three paintings—proof that art has always connected us, even beyond words.
This trip reminded me that sometimes, the most unexpected plans bring the greatest joys. In those moments, whether through dance or painting, we find not only our own creative voice but also a deeper connection to the people we love.
